Consider the following clause and answer the questions below. à "If I became rich…
The tense is the past .It refers to the present.
Bashir is poor .Certainly not.
The clause expresses condition.
Consider the next clause which completes the first clause above and answer the questions à "I would buy a fishing boat for my father"
The sentence expresses result.
It is a dream.
Now draw the rule.
When we imagine an unreal situation , we use ' if + the past simple tense in the conditional clause
In the result clause, we use the auxiliary verb would + the infinitive verb without 'to'
If + [subiect + verb in S.Past). [subiect + verb + Would I
Note: In the "if" sentence (Condition type 2), we often use 'were' instead of "was"
