THE PRESENT TENSE 
We form the present tense using the infinitive (without TO). In the third person we add s 

Example:  I/you/we/they       play
          he/she/it           plays

 If verbs end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, we add -ES in the third person. 
do - does  watch watches wash - - washes kiss kisses fix — fixes 
 If the verb ends with a consonant + Y, we delete the Y and add -IES. 
study - - studies carry — carries 
when a verb ends with a vowel + Y, we add -S. 
play — plays
