Connectors that express concession
But - although- though- even though- in spite of – despite- yet- nevertheless- however-
Although I tried to concentrate on my studies, I couldn’t help feeling lonely.
They aren’t studying Business as I am , but we share other common interests.
Despite his Indian accent, Billy was able to convey his message.
I love Australia, nevertheless I sometimes feel homesick.
express concession:
We can express concession using a number of conjunctional phrases: although, even though, though, despite, in spite of.
although / eventhough /although + Subject + verb..........
Examples: Although it rained a lot, we enjoyed our holiday
𝑖𝑛 𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑜𝑓 /𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑡 𝑓 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑡𝑒 + A Noun phrase or a Gerund.
Examples:
In spite of being ill, she went to school.
Despite her illness, she went to school.

Examples: we enjoyed our holiday despite the fact that it rained a lot

Providing that = as long as = but only if = if
Providing that= provided that
As long as = so long
The rule : providing that/as long as + présent simple = future simple .
Eg : providing that you work hard , you will succeed.
